A proud uncle indeed!
My niece (and goddaughter), Katie Vote aka KT, has been spending this last semester in Ireland. She’s studying, taking classes and student teaching at a school there. It’s been something she’s been wanting to do for a while, and when the chance came, she took it! I’ve always been very proud of her, and this is just one of the zillions of reasons!
While there, she’s taking advantage of the opportunity to see new things. Today I got an email from my nephew (and best friend), Jim Vote, that was a forwarded message from KT. It seems my niece is now a Guinness Master Brewer’s Honorary Apprentice! She received this honor while at the Guinness Storehouse. I knew she could do great things, but I never imagined it would be this great!
KT, I’m extremely jealous, but if you can hook a uncle up with some of your ‘goods’, I’ll forgive you! Enjoy!!!

HELP! I think that my Tungsten E has died!!!
I purchased a Palm Tungsten E from the Palm Store on October 15th. Today, I turned it on, and saw nothing but a white, blank screen…nothing else. I tried a soft reset…nothing! I tried a hard reset…nothing! The screen shows nothing but white. I would send it back, but the Tungsten E (or TE, as it’s sometimes called) only has a 90 day warranty. I wish that I could say that I dropped it or something, but I can’t. I know that there’s an issue with the screen making a noise, but I can’t find anything regarding this.
I think that I’m the new owner of a $200 (USD) paperweight…any ideas out there????

Happy Mardi Gras (and Happy Paczki Day) 2005!
Happy Paczki Day! What’s a paczki? It’s a Polish tradition. It’s a traditional deep fried pastry (like a jelly doughnut, but heavier) that’s filled with either a jelly, custard, chocolate or prune filling. You can find out more about Paczki Day by clicking here (Wikipedia), here, here, and here.
Last year, Fat Tuesday was February 24th. This year, it’s more than 2 weeks early. Before we know it, it will be in January…. By the way, for all of you Catholics out there, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. Time to get your prayer on….
My sushi gave me a paper cut!
Slashdot has an entry entitled, ‘Sushi Prepared on a Printer’. The entry references an article in the New York Times.
I’m pretty sure that Ed Brill will NOT be trying this.
Please Pray for the Pope
Let’s face it… not all of us are Catholics. You have to admit, though, that Pope John Paul II is pretty cool. He’s got a cool car (the ‘Popemobile’). He travels all over the world preaching peace. Heck, he even FORGAVE the person who shot him during a visit to him in prison. You’ve gotta give the ‘Popester’ (aka His Holiness) some mad props! He’s been praying for all of us (Catholic and non-Catholics) for years… now it’s our turn!!!
I got this prayer from clickondetroit.com (and it’s on the Archdiocese of Detroit website also). I don’t know who wrote it, other than in the PDF that had the prayer on it, it mentioned a ‘jchen’.
Prayer for Pope John Paul II While Hospitalized
God of infinite compassion and mercy,
the lasting health of all who believe in you,
hear us as we pray for your loving help
for John Paul II our Pope.
Bless him in his special need,
comfort him in his affliction,
strengthen him in spirit,
and restore his health,
that he might once again
offer joyful thanks
as the chief teacher and shepherd of your Church.
We ask this through Christ our Lord
Amen.
Please take a couple of moments and talk to your ‘Higher Power’ and say this little prayer to him (or her). Thanks for your support!
Red Wings players playing for the Motor City Mechanics in UHL League
Derian Hatcher, Chris Chelios, and Kris Draper of the ‘not playing’ Detroit Red Wings have signed to play for the ‘very much playing’ Motor City Mechanics, an AA-Professional Hockey expansion team of the United Hockey League (UHL). They will be playing out of the Great Lakes Sports City, an arena in Frasier, Michigan, that (according to their web site) has a seating capacity of over 4,000. By comparison, Joe Lewis Arena, home of the Red Wings, holds 20,058 per game (not including standing room tickets). Getting a ticket to a Red Wings game was hard… I bet tickets to the Mechanics are going to be next to impossible to get.
Hockey fans in Detroit need their ‘hockey fix’. We love our hockey. On the other hand, some things are getting out of control. For example, according to the Detroit Free Press, instead of saying ‘Welcome to Hockeytown’, they are now saying ‘Welcome to Hockeyburg’. (Kinda lame in my opinion…)
The irony is that they are playing for a league with salary caps. Even with their ‘star’ status, they are NOT going to get NEARLY the amount of money they got from the Red Wings. They claim that it’s more than the salary caps. For some, it might be, but for others, who knows?
Some players in the UHL are upset that the Red Wings players were signed. What’s your thoughts?
