Welcome to the Blogosphere, Sean Roland!

I’m a counselor for a youth group (the Columbian Squires) here in Detroit. One of the boys (a teenager actually), Sean Roland, wanted to start his own blog. He’s been reading mine, so he wanted to see how mine worked. Since I love showing people Lotus Notes/Domino, this was easy. Since this kid is smart enough to know a good thing when he sees it, he’s now a Blogsphere user. Check him out and say hello at: http://sar.serveblog.net . He’s not old enough to drive, but he’s been doing some very nice CSS and html code.

Welcome to the party, ‘Sugar’ Sean! (You’re next step… Lotus Notes development training…)

Annoying Gmail Requests

I don’t know if you’re getting this also, but I’ve been receiving a lot of emails from people I don’t know lately asking me if I can invite them to join Gmail. I think these are spammers that are trying to get free accounts so they can slow down our mail accounts with their crap!

Hey jerkys! Get this through your enormously thick skulls… IF I DON’T KNOW YOU, I WON’T TALK TO YOU! I’M ALSO NOT GOING TO WASTE MY TIME INVITING YOU TO JOIN GMAIL JUST SO YOU CAN SPAM ME AND MY FRIENDS! GO CRAWL BACK UNDER THE ROCK YOU CAME FROM AND DIE!!!

Boy, did that feel good! You may now return to your regularly scheduled browsing.

Show-n-Tell Thursday: Getting the ‘Head’ out!

Sorry for the play on words, but this is a simple but awesome tip. I was asked a question about how a user can view the full message headers from a mail message. Other applications make it easy to do, but it’s not very intuitive (word of the week) in Notes. Here’s all you have to do to view the full message:

1. Open the message
2. From the menu bar, select View >> Show >> Page Source.

Shazzam! There’s the full header, as well as the message in its ‘undisturbed’ state.

A short and sweet end user tip. Oh yea, I’m lovin’ it!

Happy Birthday Bryce Perry…whereever you are!

Today is Bryce Perry’s birthday. He used to work with me. I haven’t heard from him since the NFL pre-season. He promised to send me his fantasy draft analysis, then POOF… he’s gone! I hope that he’s having a great birthday! He was always a private person. We never knew if he was dating anyone, so we made jokes about his sexual orientation. He took it in stride, and sometimes made fun of himself. Here’s one of those moments: Hard at work

Have a great birthday, Bryce… and a great life!

Show-n-Tell: Another way to get info from your cell phone

Again… A day late and a dollar short… Here is one cool techie thing I learned this past week. It’s a short one, but I’ve got a full plate this week. Here we go…

There’s another way to get information from your cell phone via SMS messages. It’s called 4INFO, and it works great. I used it to find out if my plane was being delayed, but it has many other uses as well. Here is a brief rundown on how it works…

Lotus Notes Client Question: Can History be configured?

This question goes out to those of you that are the Lotus Notes experts out there. (For the rest of you, talk amongst yourselves… I’ll give you a topic… Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make it drink… Discuss!)

The History folder (located on the bookmark bar) keeps 7 days of activity. Can this number be configured? I can’t find anything in the forums or the technotes. As an incentive, this answer could be someone’s ‘Show-n-Tell Thursday’ topic…
